I stayed at the Kissos Hotel for a wedding which was hosted at the nearby Kefalos Beach Hotel. It was to see my brother in-law tie the knot.
This was my first time in Cyprus and I was surprised at just how much they catered for the English tourists. All signs, literature and the people spoke English, which was very convenient.
Kissos Hotel Location
The hotel is located about a 10 minute drive from the harbour, however it was still close to many restaurants and a short walk to the beach. There are a few newsagents close by where you can stock up on chilled water – something the hotel did not offer.
The views from the hotel weren’t exactly spectacular, on one side there was a view of the pool and some neighbouring houses and shops. On the other was the entrance to the hotel, which overlooked the car park and some barren land.
Overall the hotel was in a semi decent location, the fact that it was close to many things helps it score a OK 3/5 stars.
Kissos Hotel – Rooms, Facilities and Staff
On first impressions the hotel looked like your bog standard high rise building with painted magnolia walls. The reception are was clean and well lit although the decor felt a bit dated. The reception was also quite warm and did not appear to have air conditioning. Whilst this wasn’t a big deal, you did feel the heat after you’ve been out for a walk and returned to the hotel.
The staff on the reception were polite and friendly and check in went ahead smoothly. A negative however was that to hire a safety deposit box and a fridge you had to pay €5 a day, which we thought was a bit steep. The hotel also didn’t have free WiFi – something I think should be offered at all hotels. The pricing for the WiFi was ridiculous, weighing in at €5 for 45 minutes and even higher for longer periods. It was fair to say I didn’t use it for the length of my stay! This is something the management of Kissos hotel really should address!
Moving on to the rooms. We were situated on the 3rd floor and had a pool view room. The rooms were quite small but were more than adequate for what we needed them for. The decor, again was a bit dated, but the room appeared clean and tidy. The bathroom was decent and a fairly large sink and mirror area. The shower was OK, it held a steady temperature however the shower head had a habit of moving out of position which resulted in water making its way onto the bathroom floor.
The room had a TV which had a few English channels, nothing special. The room also had adjoining doors which was bad for noise. There were a couple next door to us and because of the the doors we could hear a lot of what they got up to, including their very loud TV.
The balcony was very small and only just fitted in a table and two chairs. I took a few snaps of the view.
Not too bad as I mentioned previously. I only had one real complaint about the room which was halfway into our stay we had ants , quite a few of them. We mentioned this to the reception staff and after we had returned from a day trip, all the ants were gone. So kudos to the cleaning staff for acting so quickly. On the topic of cleaning, the rooms were cleaned daily and towels and toiletries were also re stocked on a regular occasion.
As part of our stay we had breakfast included. Breakfast came in the form of a buffet where there was a wide selection of meats, cheeses, yoghurt’s, cereal and all the usual English breakfast items . The food was nice, however the times breakfast was served was a little inconvenient. 7am till 9.30am. I personally would have liked up until 10am as it gave you a chance to get a lie in.
The hotel had a 25 meter swimming pool which for the majority of the time was quiet, you could get a few lengths in no problem. During the afternoon there was entertainment in the form of water aerobics, which at it’s peak attracted 3 elderly ladies. Not something I or my wife was interested in. Next to the pool was a bar which served an assortment of drinks for a reasonable price.
We never stayed around the hotel during the evening, so can’t really comment on any entertainment, however there was loud music playing by the pool.
Overall, everything was OK, nothing amazing or mind blowing, so it deserves a solid 3/5 stars.
The Kissos hotel definitely deserves its 3 star rating. It was a clean and tidy hotel with friendly staff, it was lacking key features such as free WiFi and cheaper safety deposit boxes, however these things weren’t a deal breaker for us. During out stay it was quite clear that the hotel was popular with the older generation, we very rarely saw anyone that looked in our age range (late 20’s) so it’s probably not the best place for stag / hen parties or people looking for a lively atmosphere. It’s definitely better suited to couples who want to relax and top up their tans.
